Bills and resolutions, 1820-[Ongoing].

This series consists of bills and resolutions, along with amendments and substitutions, journal approvals, messages and appointments from the Governor, messages from the House or Senate, motions in writing, notices in writing, reports from legislative committees, and Supreme Court opinions. The appointments from the governor are the working copies of the appointments. Once they are approved by the Senate and the Governor, the official copy is bound with the official legislative bills and resolutions. Attached to specific bills are fiscal impact statements from the Legislative Fiscal Office. Beginning in 1984 the files include budget isolation forms, which state that a specific bill does not request appropriations related to the current budget legislation being considered. Prior to 1986 this series also included the engrossed acts, which are the legislative working copies of the acts. Once they are approved and signed by the governor, the official acts, known as enrolled acts, are placed into bound volumes. See ALAV86-A22 for a further description of the enrolled acts.

A plank road or puncheon is a dirt path or road covered with a series of planks, similar to the wooden sidewalks one would see in a Western movie. Plank roads were very popular in Ontario, the U.S. Northeast and U.S. Midwest in the first half of the 19th century. From the guide to the Alabama Legislature petition MSS. 0039., 1849, (W.S.
